Westcott vs IAS midweek league
Westcott welcomed IAS on Tuesday evening, Westcott formed a team which consisted of a mixture of 1st team and 2nd team players along with a debut for the club for Cameron Mitchell. JB debut’d captaining the team as Tiz was unable to count to 11. He won the toss and decided to bat first due to the loss of lighting at the end of the game last week.
Keegan and Mikey opened the batting for us and we got off to a relatively slow but steady start not giving the opponents a glimpse at a wicket. After 5 overs we then began to pick the run rate up with Keegan smashing some lovely boundaries and finally getting himself off the mark for the season. Keegan then got out by trying to sweep behind and just nudged the ball onto the keeper who collected willingly. Then came in Dale who played some nice shots but was unable to find his rhythm before getting bowled by Rasim who was packing serious wheels it seemed. In next was Alex fresh of the back of his excellent batting performance on the weekend with his unbeaten 38. He batted well again, playing some lovely shots, with a well driven cover drive in a joe root esc manor. He was unfortunately then beaten as he was bowled once more by Rasim who was causing problems with the ball. Mikey was beginning to open up and play some shots yet was unable to find the boundary, he was a firm backbone to the batting line up. Number 5 was Raz who showed our batsman how to run in midweek cricket by pushing hard singles and testing the field. Yet pushed his luck a bit too much and was run out after pushing a quick single. In next was JB who faced the final couple balls and ended unbeaten on 5 along with Mikey who ended unbeaten on 22. Giving us a total of 97 to defend. Not a very high score but we have defended lower. A decent batting performance which has given us confidence moving into the weekend.
Opening the bowling after a quick turn around was Pete Stiles opening from the far end. 1st ball bowled a lovely line and length which flashed the outside edge of the opener straight into the hands of the skip stood at first slip. Quack quack, a promising start for Westcott in defending their total. Dave then opened from the clubhouse end and first ball again hit their other opener on the pads which seemed to be straight. Yet not given out, Dave continued to bowl well causing problems with his slingy and skiddy action. Ending up after 2 overs only going for 21. Pete continued to bowl well, batsman were finding it hard to get shots away of him. JB came on for Pete and the less said about his only over the better going for 16. It was now time for Lewis to bring a different type of bowling to the attack which caused problems. In his first over getting a wicket from an excellent catch in the field by Cameron. Lewis continued to bowl well ending with 1-19 off 2 overs. Giles was given the nod and bowled a lovely line and length and deservedly got his wicket when the batsmen hooked the shot into the hands of Keegan who was stood on the rope. Raz then was given the all clear and had an over which showed his experience and class with the ball. With his figures finishing 1-4 an excellent spell.
All in all it was a decent performance from the boys with a new face to the team against some friendly opposition.
Onwards and upwards onto the weekend where the 1st are looking to improve their batting 😉 and the 2’s are looking to continue their winning form.
