Hello, hello, hello…. welcome everyone to the build up to the new season and welcome to Cherwell League cricket. Lots to learn about including new playing formats, different bowling and fielding restrictions, tighter rules on wides, bonus points, wet weather rules, DLS and so much more. Make sure you read the Match Rules and get yourselves up to speed (as this will help support the skipper immensely) as he can’t remember everything (not at Strongy’s age anyway).

As you would expect, a great deal of background work has been going on to ensure the Club is in a solid position to be ready for the start of the new season. The new bar is almost complete (photos to follow) (skipper’s first round), the changing rooms have all been redecorated and there are new showers for you to freshen up in after the game and brag about whatever you want.

Just one small minor issue to cover before we get into it:

Government Roadmap

The next relaxation of rules in England is on 29 March, with more restrictions to be lifted on 12 April and then every five weeks – as long as targets for beating coronavirus are met.

What’s going to happen on 29 March?

  • People will be allowed to meet outside, either with one other household or within the “rule of six”, including in private gardens
  • The stay at home rule will end, but the government will urge people to stay local as much as possible
  • Outdoor sport facilities will reopen, including golf courses and tennis and basketball courts, and formally organised outdoor sports can restart

In line with the government’s roadmap, Westcott Cricket Club aims to conduct training and net sessions over the next few weeks, prior to the start of the season. We must of course, be mindful of the conditions that allow us to conduct this training and be respectful and considerate to each other (as I would expect we normally would be).
