May 12th – vs Chipping Norton (A) – lost by 123 runs.

Heading into the game in good spirits following on from last week’s result, Lewis won the toss and put Chippy into bat on a green looking pitch. Westcott were in a good position at drinks restricting the opposition to 3 runs per over thanks to good fielding by all & tight bowling by Giles Burkitt, Dave Hawes & James Bateman. However after the drinks break the Chipping Norton batsmen kicked on & despite plenty of good fielding from Westcott Chippy reached 211-4 off their 45 overs. Despite the large total Dave Hawes returned creditable figures of 2-37 off his 12 overs with James Bateman & Lewis picking up a wicket apiece. After a fine tea ( make your own sandwiches!) Westcott started off steadily with Nick Solway & Pete Smith, however wickets steadily fell throughout the innings with Westcott all out for 88. Nick Solway (23) (below), Saghir Hussain (13)  & Tom Young (16) being the only batsmen to reach double figures.A disappointing result after the week before but against a very good team who will be up there at the end of the season. We move on next week to Deddington at home looking to show some bouncebackability.
