May 18th vs Kidlington (H) – won by 4 runs

Just when you thought last week’s game was tight, we outdo ourselves again!

With the Westcott captain ‘winning’ (okay, contriving to come to a pre-arranged solution to) the toss, Westcott went out in hope of a decent total. After Phil went early to a slightly questionable LBW, Mikey held up and end whilst he tried to find someone to stay there. (Dale (3) and Ras (10) came and went cheaply, however the youngsters showed the oldies how to bat! JB and Alex began to start building a decent total with some very mature strokeplay, when a steady shower turned a bit too steady for one of the umpires. Westcott’s inning was curtailed to 41 overs. With some more mature batting, Westcott reached a respectable 165-7 off  of 41 overs – JB ending up on 41, and Alex finishing 38 not out.

After a lovely tea, the pinch hitters (read: people who had to leave early so swung the bat) made good progress to the total with some inconsistent Westcott bowling. Once both openers were out, it came to Gary to tighten things up, finishing with great figures of 5-30 off of 11 overs (still think he should have been allowed 12, but never mind 😉 ).The Kidlington lower order started to show some fight and started to get quite close to the Westcott total. However Tom Young took a key wicket, and with just 5 needed to win, the Kidlington no. 10 went for a big shot over mid on, only for Mikey to safely pouch the catch for another tense Westcott win!

A great result again; special mention to the batting performances of Alex and JB, showing the old chaps how to do it! With the captain off on a stag do in Brighton next week (not his own he might add!), Phil Bateman will (hopefully) lead the 2nds to a win away at Swinbrook.

Keep fighting to the end just like the last couple of games and I’m sure we can bring home the win!
