Captains Report. 26 may- vs Hook Norton 2nds -won by 3 wickets.
On a sunny afternoon we welcomed Hook Norton 2nd’s and after winning the toss we put them into bat. Our Young opening pair ( Giles Burkitt (13) & James Bateman (16) ) both started very brightly before Jason Tomlinson produced a fine catch behind the stumps off James to dismiss one of their openers, James then took a couple more wickets before Giles claimed his first victim finishing his spell with the excellent figures of 5-2-5-1,we continued to dominate Hook Norton and wickets fell regularly, James (pictured below left) then came back on for his second spell of the afternoon and claimed his fifth wicket finishing the afternoon with fine figures of 11.2-2-38-5 (his first five wicket haul for the club) Hook Norton’s innings were ended by a fine direct hit run out by Nick Raynor with Hooky all out for 115, well done boys a good performance in the field
Our opening batsmen Pete (Finbar) Smith and Nick (Brutal) Solway (pictured above right) soon put us in control before Pete was bowled for 25, we lost a couple of quick wickets but Nick was in no mood to mess about as he continued to dominate the Hook Norton bowlers. Tom Young joined Nick at the crease before Nick was bowled for 68 with the team requiring 10 runs to win with 5 wickets in hand, Nick Raynor & Gary Ellis decided to have some fun by getting Golden ducks before we managed to get over the line for the loss of seven wickets, Tom ( pictured below playing a defensive shot ( the holy grail for any cricket photographer) ) finished on 8 n.o
A special mention should also go to Max Tomlinson (pictured left) making his Westcott cricket club debut at the age of 13. We have a free weekend next week but return to action on the 9th June at home to Kidlington 3rd’s hoping to carry on this fine form from this game.
