June 30th- vs Hook Norton (away) Lost by 58 runs.
Away at table toppers Hook Norton Westcott lost the toss and were put into the field. Good early opening spells from James Bateman and Pete Stiles kept Hooky going along at a steady pace on a hard flat pitch. The introduction of the slower Saghir Hussain and Lewis Jeacock slowed the run-rate without taking many wickets and a late flurry from the Hooky lower order helped them to 175 all out The wickets being shared out with 4 for Pete,3 for Saghir, 2 For JB and 1 for Lewis.
Chasing a reasonable total on a good pitch after last weeks performance Westcott were confident, however the innings never really got going with only Nick, Finbar, Mikey and Shifty getting into double figures. With Hooky 2nd’s being cheered on by the 1st’s early return (aided by their consumption of alcohol) Westcott struggled along to 117 all out.
A disappointing result in all but it shows that runs need to be scored every week in the hot weather to keep near the top of the table. Onwards to Charlbury next week.
