21st July vs Chipping Norton (home) – Lost by 2 wickets.

A close game against a strong Chippy side where Westcott tried their best to lose on several occasions.

After being put in on a pitch with dampness in the surface ( yes we had RAIN!!) Westcott lost wickets Steadily (and quickly) at the top order with none of the top 6 passing 10 runs. Circumspect batting from Jason Tomlinson (Below left) (35) ably assisted by promising innings from Giles (21)  and Jamie Wiles (15) saw Westcott reach 132 all out at tea.Chippy got off to a flyer with some wayward bowling at the start of the innings only for Gary (it’s a home game after all !) to come on and keep things tight returning fantastic figures of 12 overs, 8 maidens 5 wickets for 13 runs. With 35 odd runs still needed Westcott were searching for the final wickets but they never came Chippy getting over the line with a few overs remaining with Tom, JB & Jamie taking 1 wicket apiece.

A Disappointing result where our batting ultimately cost us the result although we have bowled better this season ( Gary excluded). Good to see us able to fight back to put ourselves in a good position just a shame we couldn’t quite get over the line this time.

No game next week so all able to rest before an away game at Stanton Harcourt in 2 weeks time with a chance to avenge our cup defeat.
