8th September 2018 – vs Wootton & Boars Hill (away) won by 5 runs.

With survival secured and the 2s  in a must win match it was a youthful side that took on a Wooton side that needed a victory to stave off certain relegation. We lost the toss and were inserted on a green track which had a boundary one side just outside the 30 yard fielding discs. With the top order struggling it was left to Stuart Symes to hit form just at the right time, promoted to opener he held the innings together and then dispatched the Wooton bowling! especially over the short boundary  to hit his maiden half century for the club on his way to a good 78.

With 207 set to win it gave the opportunity for 13 year old Giles Burkitt & 15 year old Alex Mitchell to make their bowling debuts for the 1st team, although nervous they both handled the pressure extremely well, with 17 year old Jamie Wiles also bowling some ‘Jaffas’ the future looks good.  It did look like Wooton would cruise to victory at 185-5 but once the skipper removed the danger man Webb the game took a massive turn. With the light fading ( don’t forget they chose to bat second!) that man Rehman (pictured below (again)) was  brought into the attack, he then bowled a fantastic spell of pace and length clean bowling four batsmen to add to a fantastic match winning run out from Donks ( his words). All out for 201  and a fitting end to a great first season in Div 1 that left us in 5th place and unbeaten in our last 7 matches. Great to see the team improve over the season and many individuals stepping up to the plate!  A top 3 finish next season?
